The Stitch Mouse’s Lyn French is already well-known locally for her campaign to knit warm blankets for refugees in Calais and for other charities.
Ladies in and around Epsom have been knitting blanket squares and helping us to sew them together to form baby and adult blankets.
To date, the group has knitted and donated nearly 95 blankets for refugees, 135 baby blankets have been sent to The Gambia to a mother and baby clinic, we put together 30 shoe boxes at Christmas for the homeless and collected another 30 from our generous customers so 60 boxes in all were donated. We have also been donating lap blankets to a local charity Love Me Love My Mind and other blankets that were distributed at Christmas to patients in hospital that had no visitors on Christmas Day.
We are very keen to help and support local charities and this work will continue at The Stitch Mouse, which will also be the drop-off point for donations of squares, completed blankets, wool, hats, gloves and scarves.
We are proud to have won the BIRA (British Independent Retailers Association) Local Hero Award 2017 specifically for our charity work.
If you’d like to get involved in this important and really rewarding charity project, just get in touch with us. Thank you!
